Vier um die Frau (1921)
Klein-Rogge in the role of Hehler Upton

Uncouth - if you sat and thought for forever and a day, you would not be able to find a better word to describe this character.  Not only is his appearance a turn-off, but his rotten attitude, his tendency towards double-dealing, his complete absence of a good conscience, and his quick temper are not exactly high points.  He lets criminals sit and plot in his pub, while shady deals are done in his 'carefully guarded' backroom.  His only redeeming qualities are that he is generous to unfortunates (as long as there is a chance of getting paid back), and he is willing to assist others in procuring false identities.  Real pal, that he is.

Although nothing like his sunny, previous role in Wandering Image, Hehler can seem almost lovable when compared to the villains Rudy later played.

.......On second thought, I'd rather hug up to Mabuse than this guy.
